L. Jason Queen

I was born in a small country-esque setting on the banks of the mighty Ohio river. It was here I fell in love with the creative process and nature itself. It was a natural evolution that lead me from crayons to pencils to my hearts desire of oils at an early age. I have painted most of my life and became enraptured with science fiction and fantasy at the age of 2 and yes I do remember seeing Star Wars at the local theatre at that age. The deal was sealed and I was destined for sci-fi geekage.

After surviving high school I meandered my way to college at Marshall University in Huntington West Virginia. Here I came under the influence of the creative professionals such as Mary Grassell. Peter Massing, Robert Rowe and the man who would eventually become my painting mentor, Stanley Sporny.

After earning a B.F.A. in graphic design I went out into the world to make my mark. I worked in various arenas of the graphics industry. From small advertising agencies in Ohio to WVs largest agency, I explored my career of graphic design. Somewhere deep inside my heart wanted more. I returned to Marshall to study under the guidance and wisdom of the one painter who seemed to "get" me, Stan "the man" Sporny. My journeys and studies with Stan lead to an M.A. in painting and illustration in 2004.

2004 was my destined year of transformation. In June of 2004 I was travelling to a gallery exhibit when my vehicle was struck head on by a teenage girl. I spent 39 days in a hospital and 20 days in a coma and another year learning to walk again and get pieced back together. God and I got very personal during this time. It is only by his amazing grace that I am still upon this earth. To say things changed is the understatement of the century. I surrendered it all to Him the creator who held me in that car as I lay bleeding and dying and have not looked back since!

For the past years since the crash I have created artwork under the name of RogueWolf. A name given to me by a tribal group called the "WhiteWolves Group" It is a fitting name as I once was a wolf among the art industry pack but now I am alone for the most part and exist as a rogue wolf. Here I create out of my home studio and exist in a world lost somewhere between reality and science fiction with only my paint brushes my wonderous children and my amazing wife.

Enjoy the journey! God Bless!~ L. Jason Queen

Welcome to the Madness

Greetings fellow artists and spiritual travelers. Welcome to 2012! Consider yourself blessed to have made it thus far. This year is going to be packed with political lies, fearful murmurs of impending doom and life as usual. I make an oath to counter those negative aspects of existence with more fantasy art, photography, prop builds, performance art and paintings. A few things in store for this year are the arrival of the clone troopers Matchstick and my son's armor of Commander Wollfe for the Star Wars 501st. I begin the assembly stage of the armor the 7th which is this Saturday. I am also currently in the process of completing a painting which is the first in a series. A won't tell you just yet what the painting is but I will share what it is about. I love myth and legend. As an artist I believe it is part of our talents to share stories of the world around us and those we meet. I believe we are to never forget our past but to reach for our future with all our imagination. My new painting series is based off my past series of myth. I now however am taking two mythological characters and dropping them into a hypothetical situation of confrontation. I am in love with my first in the series. A first of me using acrylic instead of oil as well. I hope you enjoy these pieces. Originals will be for sale if anyone is interested.

Water. Odd I know but I am taking a year to consider water. I am sure this will make its' way into my artwork in some fashion or form. Water. I am a Pisces born under a water sign. My totem animal is wolf as I was born in the deep of winter. When the frozen water is upon the earth. I am a student of tai chi a water style kung fu form. I follow the teachings of Yeshua (Jesus) the Christ who used water as a part of his time upon this earth and revelation to us in amazing ways. My first read of this year is
The Well: Why Are So Many Still Thirsty? by Mark Hall and Tim Luke. It is an amazing exploration into...yup you've guessed it the wells of water. The bible uses multiple instances where water changed everything! So as odd as it may seem I make it my point to simply consider...water

Did You Know?
* water has memory
* water senses human emotions and reacts to them

Dear Mr. Queen,

I just wanted to say thank you for being a guest speaker at our school today and that you brought me out of a time of, not exactly writers block, but artists block. It was very kind of you to speak to our art classes about not only art and inspiration, work, and sacrifice, but also about the dangers of texting while driving. With your accident you showed us how harmful that such things can be, in which many of us had though was innocent. You have truly inspired me and picked me back up off of my feet, and I hope you enjoyed our class as much as we enjoyed having you. Once again, thank you,and it would be a joy to see more of your artwork, as amazing as it is.

Sincerely,
Michaela Olson.

~In these dreams I'll share with you, the clouds will be at our feet...and the stars they'll be within our reach, in you and me, I believe.

~I'm bringing up a hot cup of nostalgia, tell me your memories.
